Pros

Good work/life balance; enjoy working with customer base (nonprofit organizations).

Cons

Information is not communicated clearly to employees or customers; company feels like two (Enterprise vs. General Markets); processes are unnecessarily overcomplicated/not clearly communicated. No information about our 2013 benefits has been communicated yet and many stand to lose vacation time.

Once great, but going public killed the culture

Pros

A big company and a very stable place to work. Good salary and benefits. Great community involvement, philanthropy, and volunteerism pushes from their corp philanthropy team.

Cons

As the years went on after going public, the parties got cheaper, the culture collapsed in search of a better stock price, and the in-house technology became outdated. Way too many levels of middle management, and their implementation of "agile" development was really standard waterfall interrupted with weekly 30-person meetings, where the most unqualified people talked the most (so they'd be seen "contributing"). Bottom-tier talent is never fired, just moved from department to department.

Crossing the Chasm

Pros

Blackbaud, like many companies, is what you make of it. With room for both introverts and extroverts, Blackbaud is an easy place for any personality type to find a home. The clearly defined tier structure makes it easy to see career trajectory. The flexibility to work remotely, with no set schedule, makes up for the cube-farm that exists in HQ.

Cons

Blackbaud has grown fairly quickly, but to the detriment of internal processes. Duplicate, and often redundant, systems exist throughout the organization, making it difficult to navigate the abundance of information (ranging from product information to HR). Employee benefits are generally lacking. Health Care coverage is sub-par, even if it is the average for region. For example, Cambridge employees are offered much better health care options. Compensation is also sub-par, especially considering that Blackbaud is a leader in the industry.
