Nepotism is the norm at Blanton Turner. What happens outside of work weighs heavily in shaping decisions around promotion, placement, and career trajectory. Merit and quality of work is nearly meaningless within the social fabric of the company, which has resulted in a shallow office culture that champions obedience (and intoxication). I saw many unbelievable things in my time at BT. After enduring hypocrisy of the highest order, antithetical snark, and sketchy property management practices foisted on to site level workers, the cherry-on-top was a recently promoted company leader making a completely unsolicited, non-consented attempt at sexual contact DURING a company party. You’d read that and think, “you must be kidding!?” Alas, I am not. It happened by the elevator landing outside the front door of their office at the Wash. Shoe Building. Don’t work for this company.

The culture has progressively gotten worse. There is an unnecessary focus on drinking during any workplace events, which can be uncomfortable for some folx. After floundering financially throughout the pandemic, the company chose to lay off folx at the end of 2022, making it difficult for any employees to feel safe in their current positions. Blanton Turner has a nasty reputation for nepotism as well, as evidenced by previous reviews. Merit means nothing, and connections mean everything. Don't bother working hard if you aren't also attending all the events and schmoozing your way to the top. Lastly, Blanton Turner does not pay as well as other, similar companies in the area, while asking more of their staff than other companies at the same time.
