Pros

The brief moments that the lower level employees bond and feel like family

Cons

It's run very poorly. Morgan uses the brand to build up her influencer status. She flies first-class with points attained through a partnership while long-time employees are on Spirit. Training is horrific if employees are trained at all. Your job description can change without you knowing it until they tell you that you are falling short. Opportunities for advancement do not exist for most roles. Neither do raises. It's overall a sad environment because we all came in so hopeful only to find that the negative Glassdoor reviews are true and Morgan and her leadership team (not so much Aaron or Jeff) are monsters. Lastly, you will not be paid well here and the Blavity name doesn't carry weight on your resume.

Thank you for providing valuable feedback on how the Executive Team is perceived - they do not value their employees. It is unfortunate that this may be a perception within the company. However we hear this as an opportunity of growth. To support the gathering of information of our current culture, the People Operations Team is implementing support systems which will allow employees to provide more frequent, detailed, and confidential feedback. The hope for the team is to better identify the potential gaps/areas of opportunity in Leadership Skills and implement a strategic Leadership Development plan.

Pros

Exceptional people with a diverse set of backgrounds!

Cons

I could write a book about how horrible working at Blavity is, but it seems some other reviewers have covered a lot of what I’d point out. The root of most of Blavity’s problems is simple though…2 words: Morgan DeBaun! I suspect that Morgan has been allowed to remain the CEO for this long due to the potential optics and how she would frame it if she was to be fired…nothing else makes sense. She is simply a bad CEO. I wanted to like this woman so much. Think about it: A young, talented, and accomplished black woman running a team of exceptional individuals…I was on board instantly! But then you start to witness how much this woman behaves like a teenager…bizarre, to say the least. Not to say that every single person who works here hates it, buuuuut a dangerously high number of people are planning their escape. I love that we’re soliciting fake reviews again…that’s how you know the ship is sinking. One of the latest very “real” reviewers said: “I think that management/leadership needs to be less hesitant to let people go.” I haven’t laughed this hard in a while…Morgan would fire you if she didn’t like what you ate for breakfast this morning. How sad that the ship is sinking this badly that we need people to come on here and lie for us. Join this company at your own risk! You’ve been warned.

Thank you for sharing your feedback and perspective. As we continue to evolve the company culture, we are looking to build out new internal structures that aid employees and Hiring Managers to create open and transparent dialogue; regular cadence of feedback on employee performance; feedback on Executive communication and Leadership styles. The goal is to create and strengthen transparency and trust among employees, People Leaders, and the Executives. As an organization, we can all learn from each other, take a collective responsibility, and continuously work to collaborate as one unit to achieve our company Mission and Vision.

Pros

The mission and values of this company is awesome, the people are generally great, you get to attend all the conferences for free, you get up to 4 paid volunteer days, you get unlimited time off, free access to the company's travel itineraries, and the list goes on. Additionally, there's a lot of people which seem to have been promoted fast.

Cons

Seems like there are a lot of people which weren't good hires - they don't understand the fast pace, ever changing start-up environment. In turn, they get frustrated very easily. The best thing the company can do is put structure in place to set expectations for what someone is walking into. It's all around has an awesome mission and values, and it's a cool/fun working environment, but it's not for everyone.
