Pros

Organization mission - always felt they were doing right by the donations received and it was great working for something bigger than yourself Meeting patients/volunteers Decent salary for non-profits in the area Excellent benefits and PTO - quickly accumulated additional vacation time Position allowed for a flexible schedule and the opportunity to meet tons of new people Some ability for promotion, depending on chapter situation Great opportunity for younger employees to learn/improve upon a wide variety of skills, since you are responsible for all aspects of running your program

Cons

Home Office management seemed to turn away from serious issues at the chapter level Goals seemed to continually be increased in unrealistic increments, year-to-year, leading to a high-stress environment Occasional night/weekend work, though you could generally flex hours, depending Highly affected by the economy - charitable donations tend to be one of the first expenses people cut

Pros

The patients and the ability to be compassionate with them.

Cons

Those same patients you have to be compassionate with are the target of the organization preying on their emotional and psychological conditions requesting they raise thousands of dollars. Senior Leadership is superficial, cliquey, in this area, racist and totally blind to the society in the region. The pressure on the employee is too much. 6 reviews in 3mts, The positions are sales positions to meet heavy goals set by the senior managements to incur bonuses. Reviews are one sided. No praise. I actually had the Exec Dir tell me that my work was "sh*t" after securing several big companies in the region in a month. The Directors are daft incompetent and white trash who frown upon people with money. Complaints to national organization fall on def ears. Tons of intimidation. A nightmare.

Pros

Excellent salary compared to other non-profits. Decent benefits. Organization does benefit cancer patients through financial assistance and education.

Cons

Little opportunity for growth or raises. Upper management is blind to how dissatisfied the staff is. Poor managers mean that jobs remain stagnant and uninteresting. Cut-throat and corporate-like environment where ideas are stolen. Poor communication within departments, let alone between departments.
