Pros

My coworkers are kind, amazing, intelligent, driven people, and it is a pleasure to work with them. The work is also challenging and compelling.

Cons

Since the former president of the company was displaced by the new CEO Bob Smith about two years ago, the culture has gradually but radically shifted to become increasingly opaque, authoritarian, and toxic. When Blue Origin was smaller, there was a strong culture of healthy work/life balance, and it was rare to see people in the office late into the evening. Now, employees are pressured by management to work 50-60 hours a week without additional pay or recognition. Employees are told that it is a privilege to work for Blue Origin, so we're expected to not only accept working more for less, but we're chastised if we are not perceived as grateful enough to the company and Jeff Bezos. Expression of discontentment over salary in annual compensation reviews is now dismissed as "entitlement to our founder's investments." Shifts in culture should be expected for a company working to transition from a development-focused startup into a profitable production-centered business. However, there is no justification for it to become toxic.

So many problems

Pros

Aside from some of the issues I'll bring up, many of the employees are great

Cons

Management management management. Bob Smith seems to be ignoring our current worldly crisis and is making decisions not in the best interest of the company. Very few engineers remain on site. Most are "working from home". Nobody is on the same page and there's very little communication through the pipeline. Much of what we do get is incorrect. People walk around with egos so big they can't see anything else.

A wonderful place to work

Pros

Amazing work environment in newly built offices across 3 states, with state of the art technologies, snack bars, gyms, and don't forget you can take your dogs to work. Great relocation package. Extremely supportive leadership, always ready to help with advice and actions. Ability to work in a rapidly growing organization alongside exceptional individuals where everyone's voice is heard and ideas are taken seriously. Opportunity to receive high quality training, and support multiple different projects. Blue Origin is one of the few companies who during the COVID-19 pandemic refused to downsize and lose a single employee because of their high values and long-term vision.

Cons

Surprised to see so many negative comments from peers. In my opinion it does not represent the true state of events in the company. We recently made the shift from solely R&D to a company that is in production mode and looking to generate revenue. These factors with the addition of massive growth is bound to create turnover and some negative reviews among people who are not ready to accept change. If you come here to learn, grow and solve some of this generation's most challenging problems, then it's going to become your favorite place to work.
