Amazing vision, and nothing else.

Pros

Work on orbital launch vehicles and manned spacecraft, with decades of projects planned well into the future!

Cons

*No hybrid WFH option, and no adjustment in pay to reflect the horrific Seattle area housing market. Archaic office-centric culture of misery and failure. Huge attrition due to lack of ability to evolve with the industry, resulting in further schedule slips and brain drain. *Worst offices most have encountered in their decades long careers (literally work in a circus tent loaded with incredibly small desks). *Horifically bad tools and processes, so much so that forward progress is impossible. No willingness to improve. "Go back to go forward mentality" is really just going back, and making going forward impossible. *Non-functional/technical figurehead style CEO and executive board, that makes mistake after mistake resulting in complete failure on all fronts, and is unwilling to listen to employees to make changes and improve the company. *Poor opportunities for advancement, minimal pay raises, very limited promotions (no pay raise until you threaten to quit, loyalty not rewarded). *Empty statements of support for diversity and inclusion, while embracing archaic policies of exclusion. *Brainwashing tactics to mask failure, "The circus tent is a visionary solution to our office capacity problem!" Blue is in a very bad spot right now, and likely won't change until the figurehead style executive board is eliminated and replaced with Jeffrey Bezos himself. Attrition and depression are rampant.

Pros

The advantage of Blue Origin is prevalent in every company, very common benefits, nothing special.

Cons

My comments are mostly related to Lunar Transportation, however, other groups at Blue Origin More or less suffer from the same issues: 1- There seems to be a mismatch between the roles and expertise of some team leaders. In the last year, level 2 or level 3 engineers, that are still in their learning period have been promoted to engineering managers. Unfortunately, these people are too incompetent from the technical perspective to be able to manage a project, and from time to time this lack of competency hurts the flow of a project. 2- The team atmosphere can be challenging. It often feels highly politicized, which can hinder collaboration and open communication. 3- Blue Origin is full of arrogant people who think they are developing state-of-the-art technology. However, their method and standard of development are less than cheap commercial products. 4- Just build a few years of space industry experience and bounce, this place is bogus.

Pros

Blue pays well for its talent. A little too well in some cases. Good PTO policies. Blue has hired some excellent talent.

Cons

HR is not about the people but the numbers. - HR requires a minimum percentage of people be put into the low performance trends. This is hard when the process is poor and small teams are high performing. - If you need a remote work agreement HR is all about the business aspect and not the human (i.e. when it’s obvious your in a family situation that temporarily needs to be remote HR focuses on the business case even when your team is fully remote and there is no impact) - There is no recommendation for number of years in a level. This causes employees to expect promotions before they are ready and causes people to then be promoted before they are ready. All this causes reaching the ceiling too quickly, burnout, frustration on the employee and management, and essentially leads to minimal ways out because other companies have expectations in years of experience.
