Smart people, good benefits, but lack of transparency + layoff bloodbath lately
Pros
- brilliant coworkers - $5200 annual stipend for learning and development - interesting contracts - lots of internal events for networking
Cons
- very easy to be lost in the massive org chart - you need to find your own projects and stay "billable" (% of time depends on your level), which adds a layer of uncertainty and instability to your employment that is not healthy / manageable for a lot of folks - poor middle management; "career manager" structure is reliant on having folks who are well-networked to help advocate for you. In my experience these folks are often overworked and do very little to help you source new opportunities - lack of leadership transparency re ongoing layoffs, corporate uncertainty, timeline for layoffs, contract starts amidst gov shutdown - really difficult to get yourself pipelined for cleared work if you don't have a strong career manager. You really do need to be an aggressive networker if you want to make your time at BAH worth it (this is not a con for *everyone* but is important to know as you start your job here)
