Pros

Booz Allen is a great place to launch a career and get a good foundation of business and consulting skills. Pretty much everyone I have worked with in three years is extremely intelligent and possess very good consulting skills. I have developed some great professional relationships and friendships while working there. Other things to consider: - great work/life balance (40-50 hrs/week) - competitive pay and benefits - great brand recognition - smart colleagues and team environment - first-class training

Cons

I came in as an experienced hire, and found that I was somewhat pigeon-holed in a functional silo that didn't necessarily allow me to professionally develop in the way in which I had imagined. In my experience, I see that some managers are great consultants, but real sub-par people managers. Employees need to be careful not to get stuck on a client forever. Also, I see the business model as evolving toward staff augmentation of government jobs - this is pure contracting, not consulting...

Work life balance Name on resume - always a good thing The chance to make a name for yourself with your clients The chance to work with a select few with intellect and smarts in the industry

Cons

If you are not part of the 'in' crowd and play with the good old boys you are out- do what I did - eave for something better after you make a name for yourself They are nothing but another defense contractor - no strategy consulting Underpaid - well below market Clicquish culture You don;t have to be smart or have intellect you just have to know how to BS with the best and if you disagree you are out - go to another firm and use your smarts there - BAh does not appreciate it Circa 2009 - well below the competition in terms of smarts (just look at who is being hired today), well below in compensation and just another staff augmentation firm
