Pros

401k - They contribute 10% to your 401k with out you having to do anything. It is filled with good buisnesses people so they get alot of contracts and they need technical people. However, Booz thinks after the contract is won, the work is done. Meaing they don't reward the technical people for doing the work, but they reward the peole that won the contract.

Cons

If your a technical person there isn't a job track for you. Oh but it is coming just wait... Also with the recent buyout (51% of Booz Allen Hamilton is owned by Booz Allen Hamilton) who know what is going to happen.

Pros

Excellent brand name. The government consulting side generates a ton of revenue because our name and recognition gets us through the door of most clients. From there, the market lead is usually there for his/her personal connections to the client, so they could already be buds.

Cons

It seems like a pyramid scheme a lot of times due to the way the promotions are set up for management (Lev3+). The more people that work for you, the better your business case. This makes for a lot of haphazard hiring decisions that don't necessarily fit a current need. The new hire usually comes on board pretty bored.

Pros

Management opportunities exist for employees not seen as "young". The company believes it is better than all other consulting firms, which is a double edged sword. While impressing clients, this belief alienates other contractors working alongside BAH employees.

Cons

Managers in this company will pigeon-hole employees if they do not fit in the "good-ole-boy" clique with the others. Qualified employees with motivation to take over more tasks will easily be overlooked. Opportunities to excel will probably be given to the employee that takes time away from doing actual work and spends time hanging out with other employees in the "good-ole-boy" network. This was discouraging to our younger (mid 20's to early 30'2) employees, who felt a good work ethic and high ratings from customers should help their company progress. The 360 degree system to evaluate employees for annual raises and bonuses focuses very little on how a customer feels about you and more on how coworkers and managers that may not be involved in your product feel about you. Most of the time a manager not in your chain will be in charge of you 360 degree assessments. Additionally the 401k for BAH has a vesting requirement that many other companies (Raytheon, NJVC, Chenega) do not have.
