Great company but

Pros

It's global company and privately held, so not too much emphasis on meeting Wall Street expectations.

Cons

Unless you are of German descend, you have so little chance to be promoted. I have seen incompetent associate put on the fast track just because of their heritage...

We understand - Bosch has been around for more than 130 years and, as with any large company, adapting to a new mindset is definitely a challenge! We embrace the value that the diversity of our associates offers and that’s one of the reasons your feedback is so important to us. Should you have additional suggestions, please don’t hesitate to email us at feedback@us.bosch.com. Thanks for your review! — Your Bosch Team

research & technology center

Pros

Smart colleagues working on extremely challenging technical topics; opportunities to learn about cross-disciplinary industrial research problems; company places a high value on avoiding layoffs even during challenging economic times; many opportunities to collaborate with other silicon valley researchers from universities, companies, and national labs.

Cons

Career advancement challenges arise for most researchers after a few years: the company's preferred path is for employees to move to Germany or a business unit at that point, but those options are often not preferred by the research oriented engineers that get hired at this site; returning to the research center after a foreign assignment is extremely difficult. The company's size and process-driven approach create some cultural challenges in silicon valley, and slow research progress down relative to more agile or focused valley companies. Communication and relationships with HQ in Germany are a struggle.
