Pros

1. Unbelievable experience advising companies on the most important strategic issues 2. Incredibly smart and motivated colleagues who continually challenge you intellectually 3. Fun and personable culture, hard working but not cut throat 4. Focus on creativity and finding new answers to client problems that will truly drive impact 5. Personally, I think the Philadelphia office (and partners) are amazing

Cons

1. As with any consulting firm, hours and travel can be hard some weeks. Especially Monday through Thursday your life is pretty work focused 2. For certain projects, it can seem like you undertake endless iterations on the same client materials 3. Some clients are not as nice as others

Pros

-Excellent training in problem solving and management consulting techniques, and documentation (making decks) -Top-caliber colleagues -Many interesting projects in their portfolio -Global presence -Good (but fading) brand

Cons

-Culture and work/life vary from office to office, but typically is very poor. Expect 65-80 hours a week typically when you are on a case -Travel is constant; you will average 15-16 days a month at least -From my experience, despite the marketing during recruiting, typically work is not about innovation, creative thinking, and teamwork; it's 'find, mind, grind.' It's a far cry from its formidable legacy; as it's grown at least an order of magnitude since the Bruce Henderson days, BCG is not an innovative organization compared to its peers--it's lost its edge -Compared to McKinsey or Bain, BCG does less pure strategy work and tends to reward 'output' more than quality. Its reporting and decks tend to be denser (meaning more work for a consultant)

Pros

BCG gives you the opportunity to have a great deal of responsibility at a very early early stage in your career. As an entry-level employee (Associate or Consultant depending on previous experience), you are critical to the success of or projects that have very high visibility with senior executives at major corporations. While you might not interface with senior clients as often as the partners with whom you work, you develop deep contacts within organizations as you formulate and implement recommendations. Furthermore, the culture at BCG is very non-hierarchical. Debate with more senior members of your case teams (including partners) is encouraged, and the hypothesis method discourages blindly applying existing frameworks to new problems.

Cons

In my experience, the most negatives aspects of working at BCG are related to lifestyle. While the firm's leadership has admirably tried to instill a culture that encourages time away from work, in practice the lifestyle can be very difficult. Team members typically work into the night during weekdays and often can have a significant amount of work pushed to weekends. Moreover, many consultants spend four days per week on the road, often traveling significant distances. Unfortunately, the travel requirements typically do not diminish as you grow more senior, as partners often have clients in several different cities that they need to visit on a regular basis.
