Great experience Diverse caseload supportive managers

Cons

high case loads due to long waitlist safety concerns (working late and public safety rarely showed up. Front desk would leave around 5pm and some days i'd be seeing patients until 7pm. Panic buttons under desks usually did not work)

Pros

BMC offers great pay and benefits as Boston hospitals go! Staffing in our ICUs is generally very good. The people are down to earth (let's just say no one works here for the prestige) and I've always felt supported by bosses and colleagues alike from my new grad career to now as an experienced nurse. It's not glamorous but working at Boston's safety net hospital, you get the chance to really make a difference in the lives of people who might not get health care at all elsewhere. It's challenging and humbling at times, but I've always found working here very rewarding!

Cons

Working with a big immigrant and homeless population comes with a lot of challenges related to mental health and substance use issues, poor health literacy, and language barriers. The area around "Mass and Cass" is sketchy at best, I've never felt threatened personally but you definitely need to be mindful of your surroundings.
