Pros

Company feels like a startup but is backed by a big company, PayPal so you get the benefits of a big company but the feel of a small one.

Cons

In recent years team reorganization has left some confusion around teams and reporting structures. From a product point of view sometimes we were working on what seemed like similar product to things as PayPal but leadership had not given clarity or definition to each team's role in the product build and execution.

Pros

A good place to start a career. Great in terms of learning opportunities as a junior/mid level engineer. Smart people and sometimes interesting projects. Company is doing very well and has strong and great core values, which I admire.

Cons

For mid to higher senior, I would not consider this place for long term career (no more than 2/3 years). Product changes priorities constantly which makes the job more difficult and less fun. Pay is below average (specially for the Chicago area given the city is expensive). They rely on having your compensation be like 30 or 40 percent equity based, but when the stocks/market goes down, so does your entire compensation and it always happens when you need to cash your stocks....Go figure. Base salaries are not great and pushes people away as well as the lack of opportunities to move up or sideways to keep growing your career. I had a few managers with subpar leadership skills and provide zero value feedback and little opportunities. I understand they target 10% promotions within a team/org per year which in my view is very low, and it is why people tend to leave after 2/3 years. I met many folks that are amazing engineers that have been with the company for at least 4/5 years and they have never been promoted.
