Pros

Overtime hours were easy to get and almost guaranteed unless the season was over or it was raining

Cons

Variable schedule with long hours and little warning, purely dependent on contractor needs and weather conditions. Lots of miles travelled

Pros

Company is revenue and metric driven if that's what drives you. Their ESOP and company stock price have increase year over year the past few years, even during the pandemic, putting more retirement money in the pocket of employee owners. Benefits are generally competitive for geotechnical, environmental, and testing companies in the Twin Cities. People at the company are great - absolutely employer of choice in that regard.

Cons

Braun Intertec is competitive with base pay compared to companies providing the same services, but not competitive compared to other engineering roles (civil, structural, etc.) and construction services (construction estimating, project management, etc.) in the industry. Maybe apples to oranges, but worth noting. Young staff engineers at Braun Intertec are typically started in a field role with hourly pay and do quite well with overtime compensation for their efforts over 40 hours per week. Usually within a 1-2 year timeframe Braun Intertec moves young engineers into the office. Unfortunately, engineers are asked (required) to take a significant pay decrease with a lower salary but still work long hours with large company workload. Braun Intertec cannot make you work over 40 hours as a salaried employee without compensation, but it's generally expected to meet/exceed financial metrics. Overall not a bad company to work for. Just know what you're signing up for if you're just coming out of school or getting into the game.
