Pros

Good people to work with. Overall supportive upper management. Pay and benefits are pretty good.

Cons

Lack of training at corporate center. Lack of direction on how things work and who to talk to. Some people appear more interested in chit-chatting all day than actually getting any work done. Some people feel simply working longer hours demonstrates work ethic - rather than getting the job done efficiently.

Pros

The ability to make a positive difference in the lives of consumers, seeing them grow toward their full potential and make the most of each day.

Cons

Promised pay raises that are never delivered. Pay checks often shorted then never corrected. Committed employees and those at high risk sites paid the same as those who simply show up and watch tv. Consumer's rights often violated. Borderline emotional abuse of consumers. Supervisors raising their voices and speaking in threatening tones to consumers. Supervisors with no knowledge of the emotional and medical needs of those under their care. Nursing staff negligent to the point of neglect at times. Consumers often treated as children, or worse, the enemy. Serious medical conditions ignored because supervisors choose to believe consumers are faking. Consumers with critical medical conditions not transferred to facilities which provide advanced care because ResCare makes too much money retaining them in house. Proper training not provided for in-house staff dealing with high risk consumers, meanwhile insignificant issues are micro-managed. Incessant gossiping (about staff) between supervisors and other staff. No communication between staff members at the same site. Consumers not allowed access to contact numbers for guardians, advocates, etc. HR lies to employees consistently. Executive Director has gone on record stating that staff members are expendable. This hurts the consumers who have grown accustomed to their staff. The staff are the ones who spend the most time with the consumer and understand their conditions and needs. Every time a new staff member replaces someone who has been there for years it takes both the consumers and the staff valuable time to become acclimated. The list goes on and on.
