Pros
Started as a Dining server and became a concierge, thanks to that growth experience, I was able to build my resume and obtain more job opportunities. The work culture is generally positive and tries to make it a good place to work and for residents to live. You can form some pretty close relationships with the people you work with and the residents you serve. They would have yearly bonuses and associate parties every quarter. The job is relatively stable. This is a good job if you need something temporary. Unless you want intend to become a director, be prepared to work hard.
Cons
Management. After the former directors left, all the good ones followed after and the place really went downhill. There is a lot of work for little pay. If you are a server you can’t make tips and you’re not allowed to accept gifts from residents. Be really careful not to make careless mistakes as concierge or any admin position because it can get you into trouble or worse fired. I’ve seen it happen to a couple of people. When there are not enough people to work, you’ll be expected to help cover a lot of shifts. Turnover was really high after the pandemic. There is a lot more work and responsibilities than the job description suggests, you wear many hats and end up helping solve having to solve people’s problems whether it’s fixing their TV or computer, changing a battery for the smoke alarm, or other tasks. It can be rewarding and also stressful depending on the issue. Also, there’s always a problem, there’s always something wrong with the building, the network, a machine. It’s never a dull moment. Just be flexible and ready to adapt to anything
