Pros
Brocade had been around for a while and made some great acquisitions. The SAN and Fibrechannel technologies seemed to be the cashcow, while the networking business struggled with high costs and low revenues in a highly competitive market
Cons
Broadcom's announcement of it's acquisition of the Brocade business, but of it's intention to divest all components of the IP (networking) business - some twelve months prior to closing the deal to acquire Broadcom - left Brocade in a poor position in the market - unable to find a buyer for the overall IP business, and finally forced to break up those IP businesses for sale. That made working within the Brocade IP business pretty tough and hurt market confidence.
