BROOKS BROTHERS THE WORST COMPANY TO WORK FOR
Pros
I was at Brooks Brothers working as a sales associate for 20 years. The old Brooks Brothers corporate office treated us with respect and we were valued and compensated fairly as professional sales people.
Cons
this American icon was sold out to a born billionaire from Italy back in 2001. the new owner started making drastic changes to this institution. he decided to get rid of classic American clothing and changing Brooks Brothers to a European boutique. he moved the factories to China, Malaysia, Thailand and Italy. he raised the prices tremendously, changed the fit on men's clothing without listening to his tenure sales people who constantly were getting negative feedbacks from clients. he opened up numerous stores in Europe and other countries. the new owner who calls all the shots simply not interested in what Brooks Brothers stands for in America. he took away jobs from American workers by moving factories overseas. then, he kept on complaining that Brooks Brothers Stores in US are not doing as well as the stores he opened up in Europe, Asia and South America. his second mission was to eliminate tenure sales associates at Brooks Brothers. sales people who have been serving the company for as long as 50 years. he doesn't want these folks around because he thinks 18 year old sales people can do the job for a lot less money. his biggest problem was that he couldn't get rid of the Union Stores, but he did his best to eliminate as many Union Stores as he could. on Aug. 2, 2015 without any warnings, the CEO ordered his managers to notify the hard working sales people at Brooks Brothers that he is cancelling commission sales. we were all offered an insulting hourly wage which is 45% below national rate. sales associates who have been working at Brooks Brothers for decades lost their earnings up to 60%, single moms lost their income, senior sales people who generate all the business for this owner lost their earnings. this Italian born owner and CEO who has a reputation of being abnoxious, arrogant and rude does not even listen to his aides who work with him closely at Madison Avenue Store in New York. if he doesn't like what you say, you're fired. clients who come to Brooks Brothers and spend big money are doctors, lawyers and professionals, not mentioning that almost all American Presidents have shopped at Brooks Brothers. these clients deserve the best service provided by professinal sales people who know clothing and understand their needs. young 18 year old sales persons without any knowledge in clothing can not produce any business and clients end up leaving the store unhappy without making any purchases. all positive feedbacks on Glassdoor are posted by Brooks Brothers Human Resources to fool the public. many experienced sales people including myself have already left the company. i want to congratulate the owner Mr. Claudio Del Vecchio for accomplishing his mission !!
