Pros

The Build culture is great and there are no limits as to what you can do within the company. Lots of autonomy.

Cons

Lack of structure can be frustrating at times with a very young workforce.

Great to know you are having a good experience with us. Yes, the structure keeps shifting, fortunately, its due to our growth!

Lots of career growth, but benefits and work environment are poor.

Pros

Freedom and autonomy. I am mostly left to my own devices: I was hired to do a job, and I'm trusted to do it. You really can make your career what you want it to be. Initiative and taking charge is valued at all levels. I have never been afraid to speak my mind or voice my opinions, and I've never had a manager breathing down my neck or dictating my work. Learning and growth opportunities. HR has training programs for things like leadership, public speaking, debate, etc. As well as employee taught "Summer Camps" where you can learn from skilled peers.

Cons

The company culture that HR promotes seems to be targeted toward college-aged bros (free beer, ping pong, company parties, no maternity/paternity leave program, etc.). So not surprisingly, there's a lack of age, gender, and culture diversity. Real crappy time off benefits. The office environment is cluttered, poorly designed and overcrowded. It's incredibly awkward navigating through the building to use the bathroom or get coffee. Also there are no windows in most areas, and no greenery. Hope you like gray.

Thanks for the honest and candid feedback. A lot of our initial recruits are right out of college, so we are guilty of focusing in college graduates in our messaging. The ping pong and parties are often an attribute of many companies we are competing against. As extravagant as the block party and Christmas parties seem, the HR team pulls it off on a shoestring budget. The incremental cost per head of the block party is around 35.00 and the Christmas party around 55.00 a head. While I realize that some people don't appreciate that benefit, some don't appreciate other benefits we offer. Thank you for your feedback.

Work Hard then Play Hard

Pros

Build.com is one of the best companies to work for in Chico if you're interested in a career and not just a job. You'll read negative reviews, but nothing I've experienced or faced is any different than typical challenges at other large organizations. Plus, most times the reviewer is a current or past employee that wasn't truly committed or invested in their work. Too many people here don't understand that the "Play Hard" is a byproduct of the success that our colleagues before us achieved and you can't put the Play Hard in front of the Work Hard. The company does have its challenges, but they do more for their employees than most other companies I've worked for. If you're looking for a place that challenges you and rewards you for hard work, then Build is the right place. If you're just looking for a job then set your expectations accordingly.

Cons

Nothing different than challenges other large organizations face

Great review, and we're sending out a monthly state of the union emails starting this month to help with the communication.
