Pros

Benefits while not comparable between work locations were pretty reasonable.

Cons

Poor management. Lack of communication. Loss of vision and what vision people had varried between individuals. Work environment shifted in favor of better numbers at a huge cost to morale. Lack of sincere care for the people on the ground paving the way for the companies success. Getting promotions meant you had to be friends with someone in power. Great workers who deserved promotions were often left sitting because someone else played politics better regardless of the quality of work done.

Your statements around lack of care for employees and playing politics for promotions are a bit baffling. We've promoted over 100 individuals so far this year, across all levels and locations. We put every manager through leadership training, and send bi-annual leadership surveys to all employees to allow for anonymous feedback- which our HR team takes action on.

Great Culture

Pros

The culture is, hands down, the best part about Bullhorn. You have the opportunity to work with some incredible and intelligent people. There are tons of great perks that you won't experience at many other companies: free lunch on Wednesdays, free breakfast on Fridays, First Thursday Happy Hours, annual summer outings and holiday parties. It's hard to beat.

Cons

There are times when senior management seems to be clueless as to what is going on in their own departments. Employees have been discouraged to go directly to senior management to address concerns. These issues either get swept under the rug or aren't even addressed to senior management. Bullhorn likes to preach about the opportunity for advancement, but in many cases, this is out of reach for employees. There have been times where Bullhorn has gone external for positions that should have been internal promotion opportunities to employees that were working hard to advance. If an employee has interviewed for a position a number of times, and still doesn't get the position, there needs to be discussions, not only between the employee and their direct supervisor or manager, but their senior management as well. Bullhorn has incredibly talented and dedicated employees. The company needs to invest in them before another company does. With Bullhorn being a privately owned company, there has been word around the offices that the company is getting ready to sell. This may be a very fruitful venture, but it's concerning that the culture that Bullhorn takes such pride in will suffer. Compensation is a little lower than average in most departments. The perks and benefits help combat this, but monetary compensation is still an issue.

You bring up a lot of interesting points, both pros and cons. It's difficult to address all of these in a short response. I know you have already departed, but let's talk- especially around your career progression comments. One counter-point I do want to make is around your comment that employees are discouraged from going directly to senior management with concerns. Our CEO explicitly encouraged this during our employee town hall last week, and our SVP of HR sent a follow-up email yesterday with a survey option if employees prefer anonymity.

Pros

Good products, passionate team, great location and office

Cons

Departments are very cliquey. It's very hard to develop relationships here.

Thank you for this feedback! It's a bit surprising, as we do work very hard to break down divisions between departments with our monthly First Thursday events and annual summer outings. Next time you attend one, seek out a member of HR or TA and we will introduce you to others.
