Pros

I just wanted to post about the exceptional support that I've received from my employer during a very difficult period. This summer I was admitted into hospital for an extended period due to a mental health crisis. I was extremely resistant to the idea, particularly as I was so concerned about what impact this may have on my job. Fortunately, my employers have been exemplary in their response from the moment I informed them of the circumstances. I was supported throughout by a single contact in HR who was empathetic, patient and acted in my best interest at all times. I was off work for three months and at no point felt rushed to return to work. I'm now undergoing a gradual return and I can't praise my manager or HR enough for their support. They have been brilliant. Like all organisations, BuroHappold has received criticism on this site but my experience is that when it comes to the health and well-being of their employees, they deserve much praise.

Cons

When it comes to supporting the health and well-being of staff, there are none.

Pros

international atmosphere, employees get along very well, interesting projects (on the surface)

Cons

- no sustainable design at all - management does not know who to treat people, social intercourse of the management is terrible, they talk a lot (one could say they like hearing themselves talking) but no actions, unfortunatelly the tone sometimes is absolutely inappropriate - no appreciation - most people are totally underpaid (of course we talk about that, although you try to prevent that. Why do you do anyways..?!) - office space is a mess (they prefer to spend as little money as possible on the rent. Defective furniture and fixtures) - management does not "lead" or "conduct" the people, they prefer to "rule".. and they are incorrigible - problems are not tried to be solved - managment prefers to whitewash and sit them out - stop making up stories why people supposedly leave the company - by the end of the day it has been always the same reasons in the past 2-3 years.

Hi, thank you for your comments. As a business, we know that our people are our most valuable asset. Following our employee engagement survey and the feedback within our Berlin office, we have taken actions to enhance communications and have employed a number of channels including: apps, Yammer and open floor talks from leaders. In regards to pay, we regularly benchmark against competitors to ensure alignment with the local market to ensure parity. Our Berlin office is currently undergoing a refurbishment to enhance work space and collaboration.

Pros

Good work life balance. Higher salary than most of the competitors.

Cons

Poor management which fails to address the company needs and communicate with staff. Serious issue with racism in the Hong Kong office, discriminating and not recognizing the local staff for their effort.

Thank you for your comments. We're sorry that you felt this way - we strive for everyone to feel welcome and your experience is the furthest from our values and what we stand for. We take these issues very seriously and have a whistle blowing policy in place for concerns such as those you raised. Regarding company-wide communications - our 2016 Employee Engagement Survey results showed our staff wanted enhanced communication methods to disseminate information across the firm and at all levels. We took this on-board and have implemented numerous strategies globally and locally including: CEO global calls, employee engagement action plans, together with introducing Yammer (an internal comms tool), a staff well-being App, and revamping our internal Intranet. Of course, this is ever evolving and we are always open to feedback. We also appreciate your positive comments on what we’re achieving around work life balance and salaries since we strive to ensure we offer competitive reward packages and provide recognition to employees.
