Pros

- A few mental health days - Kind people for the most part - Recognizable on resumes

Cons

- In 2020, they had major lay offs and cut everyone's salaries by 20% during the pandemic due to revenue instability yet had money to acquire W Magazine, hire new executives, and give $5K bonuses to all sellers - Now in 2021, execs claim that 2020 was our best year in revenue to date and the company was profitable, but did not pay back our 20% in salary cuts - Performative activism. Claims to have diversity and inclusivity in core values and uses it as a selling point to brand partners, however 99% of the company is white. Claims to be "for women, by women" yet CEO & Founder is a white man. - Constant pressure to drive greater revenue and take on more work without any hope of promotions or raises, and while deterring you from taking vacation - No way to grow or be promoted even after years of experience, huge contributions at BDG, and convos with managers - Employee Performance Reviews are low priority and constantly pushed back or don't even happen due to various excuses (HR is busy with the new acquisition, we are not offering raises/promotions, etc) - May finally give you a title bump but keep your salary raise hostage with empty promises of giving it to you at X date (Spoiler Alert: It won’t ever happen) - Even if you contribute to revenue for the company in pre-sale or post-sale, don't expect to see any commission or recognition for your work unless you're a seller - Non-competitive salary unless you’re a seller. There is a culture of sellers having vacation houses and working out on their Peletons together meanwhile you're barely making ends meet in your tiny apartment. - Non-existent job descriptions and responsibility differences that result in you doing the same if not more work than your better paid superiors - No work-life balance. Expect to work late hours! - In 2021, they decided not to give Summer Fridays to revenue-generating roles basically because we'll be growing the company this Summer and it'll be busy - HR regularly hosts workshops on "Adaptability & Resilience." Very telling that they recognize we're suffering and decide to organize a class on how to cope rather than trying to solve it by expanding headcount to ease workloads - Company is very cheap unless you're a seller taking out a client. Healthcare is still expensive, they don't make it easy to get your laptop fixed if broken, they didn't give us any kind of stipend to make our homes WFH friendly, they even skimped on holiday party budgets pre-pandemic

Pros

Office location and snacks are okay.

Cons

Started at the bottom and we're all still here. This place is ran by a dude who thinks it's okay to talk about his dating life with female employees. Management is a complete mess trying desperately to become profitable in an ever-changing media landscape. Why do we keep buying new sites when layoffs are always looming? If your'e a POC run away as fast as you can. Picture the women at the top in custom "white feminist" leather jackets chilling at The Wing and chatting about trendy ear piercings. We are all trying desperately to GET OUT.

The Definition of A Toxic Work Environment

Pros

Most of the time the hours are truly 9-6.

Cons

Your experience varies by team but the failings of an ineffective upper management team are felt by all. No one in a leadership position at this company knows what is going on and is afraid to admit it. There is no plan. The company blessed us with frequent performative seminars on preventing burnout when at best BDG is a content factory that churns out both content and burns through people like wildfire. I have seen souls extinguished at this place. The programming is void of any unique POV or interesting original stories- sole interest lies in fluffy click bait. Not to mention managers do not create a safe space for pitching new ideas. Management plays favorites and if you’re not one of them it’s all but guaranteed that you will not grow with this company. Unlimited PTO is not real and is met with pushback from team leaders. Projects are under resourced. The sellers are favored and everyone else is just another number that can be let go at any second. Ceo is all but absent save for sending cryptic emails once a quarter. HR is also unhelpful and the benefits are wack- half a dozen apps are required to even access your benefits that are not generous compared to other companies I’ve worked for. Also, the primary method of communication is MANIC SLACKING. It was like people would forget there was another human on the other end. If you value your mental health run the other way. Don’t waste your time here.
