Pros

The individual centers, in my experience, have been positive and collaborative work environments. The students are motivated, and the front office serving as a barrier between tutors and families allows me as a tutor to focus exclusively on helping my students, free from any distractions.

Cons

The nature of the business, with students signing up for a certain number of sessions and schedules fluctuating, make hours unpredictable. At times, I have worked 40 hours a week, and at other times, I have only been given 8. Do not expect this job to be a primary source of income. Senior management is also, as usual at this type of company, completely divorced from reality when it comes to the nature of real education.

Pros

Center-specific management and fellow teachers were very supportive and pleasant to work with. For the most part, the students are also great. Some are less engaged than others, but most understand that you're trying to help and are at least respectful. You don't really ever have to deal with parents, which allows you roll focus your energy on helping the kids. You're able to pick your availability for session pretty easily, but you are kinda locked into your time slot after.

Cons

District management isn't as supportive and tends to jump to pointing fingers when parents are upset instead of communicating/collaborating with teachers. There are also teachers regularly pulling over 40 hours a week in the summers who are still considered part time and have no benefits. (For example I worked 50 hours a week a whole summer and was still considered part time). The hourly pay isn't only good during active teaching time, for any prep you get "admin pay," which is less than half the teaching pay. I personally discovered my admin pay was actually below my state's minimum wage for months, so be sure to check your pay stubs and your offer against the local minimum wage carefully. I was also often "on call" and expected to answer texts and emails when I wasn't working.
