Awful Place to Work

Pros

Benefits were very good. Pay rate was decent.

Cons

I don't normally have any issues with employers. However, working at this employer was almost like a Dr. Jekyll/Mr Hyde situation. Throughout the interview process, this employer seemed like a dream-employer. It was almost like the new Google or the new Facebook. However, once you started there, they were not very welcoming of new employees. There was absolutely no orientation, no training, and no building mechanisms. New employees were left to their own defenses. The HR team was disengaged, uninvolved, and overall rude. The production team had unqualified managers. There were favorites who got away with things while others were held to more strict standards. Temporary workers were promised the world and then dismissed one or two days before their 90 day term for any small imperfection.

CAE USA - Good benefits; old school thinking

Pros

Compensation is ok - they pay overtime. Good employee benefits. Lots of smart people which is nice to be around. Lots of good contacts with military.

Cons

Some good simulation software but on the other side, most in Tampa are on Office 2007 (!). Weird mix of outdated software and new technology. Very little work from home -- they still want to see you in office. Lots of good engineers but not so much good mid level management- a lot of engineers turned to management who are not good at managing people. I think they are trying to change that; just started a "tech only" kind of path. Heavy focus on military, which makes sense considering the customer base -- but lots of ex-mil management also try to enforce chain of command thinking, which gets in the way. New head honcho seems to be doing pretty well; better than previous one.
