      Be a broker; don't be a Project Manager. And start early in your career.

      Pros

      Money. The potential for income for brokers is enormous. However, for corporate project management it is not so much.

      Cons

      Corporate real estate may be fulfilling for people in Sales; but for Project Management it is the epitome of torturous corporate America. Bitchy bosses, long hours, abusive clients. In addition, HR is not much of a help when you want to switch business lines. Some people can't afford to work commission jobs.

      Pros

      On the job experience. The opportunities to learn multiple sides of the commercial real estate business are endless. The company also provides learning opportunities like certification and accreditation programs that are excellent. The resources offered to employees are also extensive, mostly geared toward brokers, but usable by all.

      Cons

      Fortune 500 attitude and treatment toward most employees. What I'm speaking of is a culture problem. If you don't like the way CB does business don't let the door hit your ass on the way out. There is no consideration for differences of opinion, even if it might increase productivity, efficiency, revenue, etc. Seniority is all that matters (Seniority trumps ALL, and that includes Incompetence !!!)

      Pros

      independence and freedom to make on the spot decisions. very independent environment that allows you to plan your work. CBRE will allow you to develope in very specialized areas and you must define your own career path.

      Cons

      communication and technology cbre seldom invests in technology for its employees. most is antiquated and could use upgrading on a scheduled basis.
