Pros

Company has traditionally hired hard-working common and dedicated, team oriented individuals from middle management on down through the ranks that by-and-large have been a pleasure to work with, in my experiences. CBT Nuggets offers very good insurance coverage with low premiums.

Cons

High turnover Lack of empathy from upper management No published pay structure No cost of living or merit increases - Employees must request raises through supervisor to be approved by CEO Lack of overall direction Siloed workgroups Extremely high recruiting and hiring standards lead to lengthy vacancies and ultimately larger workloads for team members

Pros

The benefits are amazing and the PTO allows me to travel and spend time with my family. The best part in terms of development is that the range of technologies and willingness to try anything to see if it works for the company is unheard of. In the last two years I have worked in C#, Node.JS, Python, Angular.JS, React.JS as well as interacting with multiple new server technologies including Docker, Amazon Web Services and other cloud based technologies. Most places I have worked at over the last nearly two decades have been a one tech shop. LAMP stacks usually. Here all technology is fair game to at least try and see if it fits. We are moving from LESS to SASS because it will be a better solution for our future endeavors. We have people that program prototypes in Ruby and we got to at least two training conferences a year (this year I went to Fluent and will go to OSCON). Like all jobs there are ups and downs, but I have never ever been at a place that has this much opportunity to not only stay relevant technology, but also to influence what tools and technologies are adopted.

Cons

Having worked at a lot of businesses, I don't feel that there are that many cons to this job that are not discovered at other places after a time. Overall, I have no complaints.

Lack of Leadership Leads to Longing to Leave

Pros

Great people, outside of leadership. CBT Nuggets hires smart, enthusiastic people, but provides them zero structure or growth opportunities. Great product, CBT makes online training videos. Benefits are paid for 100% and decent 401k match.

Cons

Lack of promotion, lack of growth opportunities, zero direction, zero accountability, lack of leadership, lack of diversity in leadership ranks & beyond, senior employees are apathetic and new hire's enthusiasm is sure to wane as time goes on. No performance evaluations or meaningful 1:1 meetings, leads to a lack of purpose & understood value. Individuals are responsible for doing their own training (mostly online video consumption) but there are no internal group training opportunities provided.
