      Tenure seems to be more of a requirement for advancement and promotions than actual skill. Old boys network to get into management Creativity is only encouraged within the constraints of existing technologies and practices

      Pros

      There are a lot of exciting changes going on as the IT departments are growing up along side the company. As a fortune ~600 company in the Midwest there is this odd combination of a small farm based company and a resource heavy fortune 500. In addition to many exciting projects there is a lot of growth opportunity as most of the management, director and senior management will be changing over in the next 5-7 years

      Cons

      Culture is very conservative which is great for an insurance company but for the typical IT employee it means not a lot of expensive training, often not being able to work with best of bread technologies and the expectation to make it work anyways with some extra elbow grease.
