- As a conductor or engineer you’ll basically be on call all the time except for 10 hours after clocking out (though I’ve heard they do have scheduled off days now)
- You’ll probably spend a lot of time out of town for work
- Until you have lots of seniority (which can take decades) you will not work a regular schedule
- If you have kids, you will miss lots of important moments
- You’re told while you’re still in training that management will try to fire you (and they do)
- Do not take the impact this career has on your life lightly
