Pros

Flexible hours. It's not a problem if you're late or need to head out in the middle of the day for an appointment. Pretty low cost of living in the area. Most managers don't micromanage.

Cons

The top issue is that CSC in Menands exists solely for the eMedNY contract, which they no longer have and are in the process of transferring to a competitor. How long it will take to complete the transfer and cease all operations is a topic of endless discussion, but most people are getting the sinking ship feeling and the office sees a lot of turnover. That coupled with a requirement to keep a minimum number of people (excuse me, we're not people in the office, resources) on staff means a lot of new hires nobody cares to properly onboard/integrate into the team. At any given time, half of the resources in the office seem to be completely swamped in work while the other half have absolutely nothing to do. There's no sunlight and a lot of resources won't acknowledge/smile at you while walking around the office.

Pros

I get paid so little I probably have zero chance of being fired. Also the job was mostly 9-5 with a couple deployment weekends here and there. Altogether not so bad for IT.

Cons

CSC managers don't really know or care what actual work I'm doing for Farmers. CSC is also losing ground to other contracting firms within Farmers insurance. They don't care what you were hired as or want to do in your career, they will just assign you to a project within their client.
