Pros

They're willing to spring for a clearance. They have a huge CBT and training library.

Cons

Management in the Norfolk area is absolutely inept. Signing off on contracts without having the funds to back the work, and placing the employees in a battle between CSC and the customer over what is and is not getting done is ridiculous. Taking a contract, without the ability to manage the workers on that contract is horrible. And worst - hiring people with *absolutely no relevant experience* in order to fill seats quickly. How do you hire an Oracle DBA who's never used Oracle before...even at school or some kind of training? How do you hire network engineers who've don't know TCP/IP? And then bill them as 'Sr. Engineers'? CSC's actions at times amounted to just short of outright fraud.

Pros

Good place to start. CSC provides good training oportunities for some. Lower level managers are some of the best around. The benifits package is quite good.

Cons

Employees are just numbers. They look more at education/training than they do ability to perform. They don't motivate their employees at all. Doing an excellent job is not noticed but neither is doing a poor one.

Pros

Stepping stone to something WAY better. Salaries are really poor, if you transfer from group to group within the company, the move is almost always "lateral" -- which means you don't get a pay increase, but they promise you a good pay increase after 6 months, which is then later pushed back to the annual appraisal period, and when the appraisal period arrives, management tells you that CSC is not doing so well and they won't be able to give you anything better then 1.5 to 2.5% increase. In my 20 years with CSC I've seen a lot of people leave the company to get a better work environment and better paychecks.

Cons

Management for the most part is terrible, most lower tier management have no experience and treat you like kids. They will offer you training, but at the last minute there's a freeze on the training budget and there's no training. It's very rare that you will get training working for CSC other than internet based training or CBT's. They consider their account with "Books 24x7" to be training. CSC does not pay over time.
