Stay away if your upward management skill is limited
Pros
job security, payscale, for the sake of CV
Cons
1.very hierarchical, line managers are quite pushy and manipulative.bad work life balance due to globalisation of organization, lack information/direction transparency and terrible management from the very top to the bottom 2.scientists have no access to any project meetings/scientific discussion at all, basically work as a technician/trainee and being told what to do without detailed information. “Just do it”, no need to contribute any scientific thoughts and no chance to make any question on the task itself, sometimes the task is not feasible and reasonable to execuate. 3. pretty limited salary increase due to performance rating standard. Not recognize employees achievement and contribution enough. Please forget promotion since it is never evaluated by your work quality/quantity but upward networking skills. Not good for personal career development because nothing to learn at all. In general, any students from high school could even do the scientist work needed. They are energetic to work overtime, no scientific idea to contribute , afraid of being in a conflict so easier to be handled by the disabled line manager.
