Challenging and rewarding, but a different lifestyle than most.

The management benefits and entry wage rates are competitive, and the retirement is excellent. There are a wide range of career paths available within the company.

Cons

The field operations management positions have little support, and very long, unconventional hours which makes the work/ Life ballance very difficult to successfully manage.

Pros

The pay is very good. The system is workable so that if you and a union buddy cooperate you can manage to get specific days off.

Cons

You have no social life. Sometimes you don't even have a home life. Extremely combative environment between union and management. The entire system is designed to get their employees in trouble. They do whatever they want and do not care about their employees at all. Management has no clue how to run a railroad. They openly acknowledge that they're ignoring what the customers want so they can fudge their numbers and try to appease the stock owners.
