Not enough recognition for doing a good job. I felt like I was doing the work but not be let known if it was correct.
Skeleton crews: We open and close with only two people (a cashier and a manager/supervisor). I feel like one person gets stuck doing all the work while the other is stuck up front. If you are a cashier that doesn't show initiative or is very part time, you are basically stuck at the front of the store. Upper management needs to know that customers will come back more often if both the front store and the pharmacy would have more people to get more done. While it is true that we can get anything done while "learning how to multitask" as my manager says, the store doesn't get faced or the bathrooms cleaned thoroughly because of the lack of time.
The initial training was very minimal at best. It is easy to learn as you go, but many cashier mistakes and cash register variations arise out of lack of training.
There seems to be no consequence for anything. Cashiers can continually make mistakes and nothing is done about it. I don't know if its the managers fear of finding someone new or corporate policy.
The amount of questions that we need to ask customers to get through a transaction is crazy. The card is a nice incentive, but don't grade us on the scan rate of each employee. The majority of us just scan a random card and rotate it through a pile just to get the customer through. Don't make it mandatory. The triple S score also does not get a full picture of the type of service we give to our customers.
