Pros

I didn't work there for very long as it was just for the summer and I had to go back to school, but I really did enjoy working there. My boss was focused and direct but also cool and had a great sense of humor, and my coworkers were also interesting and respectful individuals that I enjoyed conversing with.

Cons

Unfortunately, after being acquired by Bass Pro, they started drastically cutting costs. During my time at Cabela's we were using iPods with a proprietary case and software used for scanning store items and other store-related tasks, and they worked very well and were very easy to use. However, Bass Pro has been trying to phase out the employee iPods and is replacing them with scanning devices from 20 years ago, and these devices are loaded with a special type of Windows that looks extremely similar to Windows 95. Suffice to say, these scanning devices are not nearly as intuitive and efficient as the iPods, but Bass Pro is implementing them in Cabela's stores because apparently they will somehow be overall less expensive, which I find dubious at best.

Pros

The discount is not bad on some items

Cons

Low pay, extremely understaffed and management does not give a damn. They just turn and burn employees. Very poor customer service is given to most customers because you are so short staffed. We only have one person working on very busy days. You are required to sell the company credit card ...that seems to be the most focus.

Pros

Some of the pros about working at Cabela's are: * you receive up to 45% of on brands owned by Cabela's and Basspro and 15% off on brand named items. * you get some decent medical coverage as a PT employee after 90 days, nothing to amazing but if you wear glasses they cover up to $160 on the frames. * Most fellow employees tend to be friendly and somewhat knowledgeable in their departments.

Cons

So the cons for working at Cabela's: * Even though you can use you're discount with family members be careful because they can fire you at the drop of a hat for using it, if they decide to. * The employee discount is extremely restricted to clothing, footwear, and camping with few exceptions if it was the Cabela's brand on it. * Senior management only seems to care about how many club cards that we can push customers to sign-up for. * No real opportunities to become a FT employee outside of the already established management. * God forbid you work in the customer service section like i did, customer service employees have no protection and are used by managers as scapegoats on questionable returns that are made and they approve. * Managers and Upper Management seem to be exempt from all the store rules and have almost free rain to do whatever they want and slack off. * Any form of store policy are generally ignored by most leads and managers, except those that work at the gun counters. * Since the Basspro takeover the Asset Protection has become a joke in terms of stopping any form theft from the stores as they no longer have the power to do anything about it.
