Store management is awesome. Corporate needs a reality check!
Pros
I love working at my store. We have, for the most part, awesome managers that actually care about their employees. Our GM is amazing and realistic in his approach and is always willing to be there and mentor us who ask. The employees are a blast to be around and if you stick around long enough you find that you have found yourself a new "family" per se. It's a fun and happy environment to work in. Customers are awesome! I have met so many amazing people while working for Cabela's! I love it when customers come back to see me and all for the purpose of just saying "hi" or to show me pictures of their latest hunt or them teaching their kids to safely handle a firearm. It's almost like "old home week" every day.
Cons
Corporate has some serious issues. Those issues lead to stresses that are placed on our managers who inadvertently pass them on to low wage Outfitters who bust their tail to make their store as awesome as each and every customer sees. HR is ridiculous and follows a set of paper written rules that they themselves have not even read. Outfitters who need HR to go to bat for them, when corporate enforcement refuses to see Outfitters needs as individuals (aka People), are left without assist and are fighting for their job. Corporate is a ridiculous excuse to not try to get down to the bottom of things by trying to relate to or understand their employees. It's always "find fault first and then blame them anyway" It is absolutely ludicrous. I only stay because I love my store, my managers, the people I work with, and customers that I am around every day.
