Pros

They do offer a pretty good management training program for young people just looking to start their career. However there was a really high burnout rate because of the time demands they put on junior management. From the bottom, it looked like senior management was well taken care of and highly dedicated but a little less then inspiring.

Cons

Junior management is scheduled to work 50 hours a week but is expected work closer to 70. Management and Union relations are pretty strained. Rather antiquated information systems and procedures.

Pros

Harrahs offers many advancement opportunities into almost any field you are interested in and opportunities to transfer to many areas across the United States and oversees. They have a great tuition reimbursement program if you are interested in continuing your education. Harrahs has a very good vacation package for all employees and you begin earning time off very quickly. They are community advocates and are always participating in fund raisers for a variety of charities, even if you don't personnally support everyone, there is usually one that you will connect with. They really try to communicate and share information with everyone that works for them.

Cons

A lot of MBA's leading the company who have a tendency to "over think" and complicate simple issues. Have WAY too many "systems" in place that don't completely talk to each other causing necessary manual labor behind the scenes. Much smaller casino operations have much better tracking and reporting mechanisms in place. Really need to invest some dollars in restructuring how the systems work together. Coming from a small private casino/hotel operation, I was very dissappointed in the systems as Harrahs has always been know as the "leader" in the industry for systems. Cannot get the data in a timely manner, resulting in a delay in reacting to negative trends.

Pros

Harrah's is good for people who do not have too much going in their personal lives. Working in the 24 hours gaming operations will take up more of your time. But the environment can be exciting and fun. It has the potential to make people happy and satisfied with thier jobs. The health benefits are great provided by CIGNA that 401k options and for those who are in the right place at the right time promotions and job advancement can certainly be easily attainable. Harrah's is the largest gaming company in the world. Gary Love (CEO) if very smart as well as his team of people. Harrah's never wants to settle for less and will strive to create the best experience for each customer that visits a location. So of course you too as an employee can be part of the mega-gaming facility!

Cons

Each location follows it's own set of rules. The consistency among the brand ends with the rewards program. Internally the consistency falls to the way side and you find yourself wondering what is going on. Communication is not the best and many times the important stuff becomes distorted by the time the information reaches the line level employees. Performance reviews are more of a joke there. it's all based on who is in with the right people. Not every property is like that but for the most part it a political game of who you know and who really likes you. In addition, the industry alone give you no break when the holidays arrive or when issues that are unexpected occur. You are working in the 24-hr gaming industry and very seldom do they cut breaks for people to take time off during the busy time for the casino. Many people have a hard time with that, but it's part of the job.
