      Pros

      Great benefits, good pay, job stability, retirement compensation great, CalPERS system is extremely helpful for employees, Transfers are an extremely easy process

      Cons

      Bad management, virtually impossible to terminate problem employees, no recognition for excellence, CalTrans HR are impossible to reach directly unless you live in Sacramento

      Pros

      You get a lot of knowledge and experience, and you get to work on some interesting projects.

      Cons

      People frequently take credit for your work, and there is no balance in workloads between yourself and people with the same job. You can could be working on ten complicated projects, and the person next to you could be working on five simple ones. You get paid the same. The reward for doing more is usually just more work, not promotion. They try to keep the "work horses" working, and promotion does not benefit Management's short-term goals.
