      Pros

      Great people and environment. Really laid back atmosphere but was a great place for an internship. Learned many aspects of engineering for Caltrans and benefited because of it

      Cons

      Lot of paperwork and takes a while to learn the system. Not all of the time is spent on engineering but if you plan on a career there it is great experience

      - The Department is changing, making it a dynamic place to work - More promotional opportunities than most public agencies - Significant amount of training is available to employees - Malcolm is a great Director, one of the best the Department has had in ages

      Cons

      - The amount you make at Caltrans depends not on the work you do, but the bargaining unit you are with. - Planners and ROW agents are significantly underpaid compared to other agencies. - Bureaucracy and antiquated management structure
