      Pros

      One of the benefits for working at Caltrans is the general flexibility and Work Life Balance. The employees are diverse and there are Interesting people to work with.

      Cons

      Training is sparse, so that may impede your ability to find other opportunities at other companies. There is also a lack of accountability. I've seen instances were employees did not pull their weight and it caused a strain on the other team members. Advancement opportunities not great.

      A great place to gain experience, a chance to work on large and fascinating projects, but don't expect to get rich.

      Pros

      Excellent experience, diverse and interesting work force. Chance to work on projects that affect thousands of people. Friendly work environment.

      Cons

      New hired will not receive the same pension benefits as existing staff. No geographic pay increment, so in expensive areas of the state, wages are low compared to other public agencies.
