      A decent job without merit based raises or recognition

      Pros

      I enjoy the benefits, opportunity for training, all the holidays we are given off as well as the ease of transferring your location though out the state. Very stable job even in times of economic hardship.

      Cons

      I hate the bureaucracy when working for a state agency, sometimes I feel like just another number rather than an employee. Promotions are near existent.

      Pros

      It allowed me to raise a family in a beautiful area of California (redwoods, coast, mountains) with a decent salary and benefits. My work with the public and co-workers is satisfying for the most part. I am just a short way from retirement.

      Cons

      Some of the middle-management are not so competent. In the last ten years a lot of the environmental regulating agencies and new laws involving eminent domain are making work a lot more difficult and less satisfying. A lot of it is a horrid waste of time and public money.
