Pros

Remote work, some coworkers are nice

Cons

Workload management is one of the biggest issues. There’s a constant stream of “urgent” tasks, many of which aren’t urgent at all. Instead of thoughtful prioritization, everything is pushed onto employees with little clarity and no regard for workload. Managers often distribute work unevenly by giving heavier, more stressful tasks to employees they don’t favor, while their preferred team members receive noticeably lighter workloads. There is also a troubling pattern of quarterly layoffs, which creates ongoing uncertainty and negatively impacts morale. What makes it worse is the culture around management. Watching managers lay off people on their own teams and then somehow get promoted afterward was honestly one of the most demoralizing things I’ve ever seen in a workplace. It’s hard to feel valued when actions like that are rewarded. The HR department also adds to the challenges. They frequently seem unprepared to support employees, and there is a noticeable lack of diversity in the individuals they choose to hire.

Pros

This review reflects my experience. Compensation felt below market while expectations were sky-high. The workweek was dominated by meetings, including a weekly planning session that routinely ran around four hours. Those marathon “planning” calls didn’t translate to progress—they just siphoned the time needed to get things done. Day-to-day, I dealt with close, nitpicky oversight that discouraged initiative and slowed decision-making. The result was a culture of over-planning and under-delivering: lots of talk, very little execution, and not enough trust in the people hired to do the work. If you value focused time, fair pay, and reasonable autonomy, this environment will be frustrating.

Cons

My experience at Cambium Learning Group was overwhelmingly negative: underpay relative to expectations, a calendar eaten alive by meetings (including a weekly four-hour planning slog), and a management style that nitpicks and micromanages instead of enabling execution. The obsession with planning left almost no time for actual work. Hard pass.

Pros

This company was once great. The founders were awesome people who simply wanted to make a difference in children's lives.

Cons

Too many buy outs and mergers caused tumultuous times in this company. Politics became the over riding factor, and decisions were made due to personal vendettas.
