Here’s the truth ...

Pros

Work-life balance is actually awesome Unlimited PTO is real—and people are encouraged to use it. No one’s wearing burnout as a badge of honor here. Even the SLT team takes 6+ weeks off a year, so it really starts at the top. Remote-first and super flexible Work from wherever, whenever. There’s a ton of trust that you’ll get your work done without anyone breathing down your neck. It’s all about what works best for you. Great people all around You’ll be working with smart, driven folks who are also just really kind. It’s a nice mix of talent and good vibes.

Cons

Camunda is broken — and we’re accelerating in the wrong direction. Speedboat? Try Oil Tanker. SLT loves to call Camunda a nimble speedboat. That’s ironic. Truth is, we’re an oil tanker — slow to steer and cruising straight toward better-funded competitors with billions in the bank who are about to start running circles around us in our home turf of process orchestration. No CRO, no GTM strategy, just chaos. Every GTM team — Sales, Marketing, CS, Partnerships — reports directly to the CEO. There’s no CRO, no clear strategy, and definitely no alignment. The result? A free-for-all of crossed wires, conflicting priorities, and teams blaming each other for missed targets. Everyone’s rowing in a different direction, and nobody’s steering. The DRI model is a scapegoat factory. In theory, “Directly Responsible Individuals” should drive accountability. In reality? It gives everyone else permission to disengage, then point fingers when things go south. Bonus dysfunction: sometimes the DRI no longer works here, so the blame shifts to whoever forgot to assign a new one. It’s not actual ownership. Outcomes don’t matter — optics do. Want to try something new or fix a broken process? You’ll spend more time arguing whether it’s a task, objective, or initiative than actually improving anything. Good ideas get buried under bureaucracy and ego. G&A is where good ideas go to die. Legal, IT, and HR don’t just create red tape — they are the red tape. Legal routinely kills deal velocity. They move at a glacial pace, with zero commercial urgency. Prospects have told us our contracts are more complicated than Microsoft’s - the largest company in the world. Let that sink in. HR is inconsistent and defensive. Instead of investing in people, the default response is “if you don’t like it, leave.” Promotions feel random. Firings feel political. Support feels nonexistent. IT think we are developing the next 6th generation fighter. Every day I think I enter my password five times on the same computer. Also, we’re in 2025 and somehow still using Outlook for email because IT think it's more secure ... but we still use Google for everything else. You can't make this up.

Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed and candid feedback. We’re glad to hear that you value the work-life harmony, fully remote and flexible work, and the incredible people here at Camunda. These are intentional aspects of our culture that we’re proud to see reflected in your experience. We also hear your concerns around clarity, alignment, and operational friction. It's clear you care deeply about the company and its future, and we appreciate that perspective. As we scale, evolving our structure and strengthening cross-functional collaboration are top of mind, including in our go-to-market approach. This includes building the right leadership team to drive alignment and ensure accountability for key outcomes. We understand the frustration expressed around internal systems and support functions. As we grow, it’s critical that G&A functions evolve from being foundational to truly enabling scale, with a focus on reducing friction and better supporting our go-to-market and product teams. These are not easy changes, but they are necessary ones and we’re committed to making progress with transparency, urgency, and a clear view of what’s needed to ensure Camunda becomes a generational company that can thrive for decades to come, effectively meeting both current and future customer needs.

Pros

- Employees and coworkers are the best, Camunda would be nothing without them, their mindset and awesome technical knowledge and ease of collaboration, as well as transparency and human values. It takes time and its really hard to build and replace teams with that level of great people - In my case, my direct manager is also great and really feels like part of the team, we never had any big issue within the team in general, and if we did its a safe place where everyone can talk about it and help each other - When someone in the team needs some time off (let it be a couple of hours to take care of something or a day off to rest) its all good and we are all organized, noone ever pointed fingers for this kind of stuff (this is probably one of the many parts of the work-life balance thing employees are concerned about going away)

Cons

- Removing an optional yearly company gathering that many employees liked for team-building - Imposing instead a yearly company kickoff where everyone must assist, which interferes with employees out-of-work planning, time off and the remote-first value - When I joined the CEO was congratulated for the company approach on transparency, which compared to other companies experiences makes sense. It is definetly a game changer on creating a safe, non-toxic and fair work environment for everyone, thats one of the things that makes Camunda stand out among other companies. Like it has been mentioned in other comments, this looks like its starting to dissapear starting from the SLT, along with the employees that promote and value transparency - We were told that if we want work-life balance we should look elsewhere, and the answer we got to why was that told afterwards, sounded like a vague excuse to not make it sound too bad and turn the conversation around. Just like another good value many Camundi have, recognising mistakes is part of growth and anyone can make them without being judged for it, Im sure at least some Camundi were expecting this to be done by SLT as well, like simply explaining it was a communication mistake that anyone can make and it would have been fine - Companies that start going downhill and have massive employee rotation numbers, multiple SLT replacements/hirings, acquisitions and therefore a big loss of specific and technical company knowledge, they all start with these kind of company practices "hints". Hopefully Camunda wont steer in this direction and it will be just a slip, it can be fixed with proper action and conversations instead of creating a permanent deal out of it In conclusion, it looks like SLT is trying to push their new "values" downstream starting with some little "hints", and they received a major pushback and answer from the employees, because they actually care and promote the previous approach to transparency and work environment that Camunda itself promoted. Employees are doing their best to build that generational company SLT mentions. We have the best employees (no need to copy fancy wording like "A-players") and it can be accomplished, but like a tree, you cannot cut Camunda roots in order to grow, otherwise the tree starves and employees start leaving, uncomfortable working environments appear like other reviews mentioned about some "leader", internal knowledge that takes time to build exits the company... and so on, while other competitors then could take the opportunity and start riding the wave we want In few words, you cannot build a generational company if employees have great values like transparency or work-life balance that are not matched by SLT. These values and roots keep the good mood of Camundi, retention of great employees and increases the quality and quantity of their contributions. Achieving big goals doesnt mean we need to leave the great values that were built by Camundi behind.

Thank you for taking the time to share your review. The pride you take in your team, your manager, and your peers truly resonates and we couldn’t agree more: our people are the heart of Camunda. We also hear your concerns around recent changes, whether that’s shifting priorities, how we handle communication from leadership, or the impact of certain decisions like the retreat. These transitions have not been easy, and we know that even well intentioned changes can sometimes have unintended consequences. We want to support Camundi through change in a way that feels aligned with our values not in conflict with them. It’s something we’ll keep working toward with intention. Thank you again for sharing this.

Pros

Great and smart colleagues across all departments. Most of us just want to do a good job and work hard.

Cons

Too few from the senior leadership team have done this before. Getting nasty and political in a bad way (f.ex. I too reported abnormal behavior from 'leader' mentioned in other review to my line manager) with no action to try to course correct.
