Pros

CapTech provides many different channels to focus on skill development outside of client engagements. Personally, I've enjoyed the variety of internal efforts and opportunities available and feel that I have ownership in determining my level of engagement so I can maintain a work/life balance that works for me. With the size of company, it is a great place to collaborate with different levels of experience and interact with senior leadership. Unlike larger firms, I feel more valued and seen by senior leadership. Throughout my career at CapTech, I've felt empowered to take on new roles and opportunities, which has ultimately helped evolve my strengths and direction at the company.

Cons

With teams being spread out geographically, maintaining the CapTech culture is challenging especially after COVID to encourage more in-person engagement. Many times, it is easy to become siloed in only knowing those who are on your project. However, much of CapTech's leadership focus is dedicated to preserving our culture and organizing new options to get together. I think this is generally a reflection of business culture after COVID, that CapTech continues to navigate through.

Pros

I learned a lot at CapTech and gained a lot of good experiences. Even during my time on the bench I was able to use that time to gain certifications and learn about topics that interested me. Other CapTechers always had learning sessions to teach others about their client work or various topics in software engineering. And this was all with Full-time pay and benefits, with a client or no client.

Cons

Bench time was a bit too long at times. It's a smaller company so you don't get as much choice in what client project you will be on. You can network within the company to try to find a project, but sometimes senior management will just refer you to the staffing team. My first project was an SaaS project, which is the worst type of project you can be on as junior software engineer. This is because it really limits the opportunities available to you if you want to do work that doesn't involve a SaaS.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us! It’s always encouraging to hear that someone made the most of their bench time by having a moment to transition from one project to the next while still leveling up their skills. Even with the exciting client work we do and the innovative projects we shepherd for our clients, there is sometimes work, like SaaS, that is still a priority need for our clients and we want to serve them in all ways. Our consultants are encouraged to work with their coach to get the best projects for their skill set that can challenge and excite them. Thank you for your contributions to CapTech. -Katy Apostolides, Managing Director - HR
