Women Engineers Beware

Pros

Work/life balance is good if you have an easier client. Remote work if your client allows it

Cons

I hate that I’m having to post this review but I genuinely want to warn other women in computer science about working here. Many of us have tried to bring this up to CapTech over the years and nothing ever gets done so here it goes… Women make up 1.9% (1/52 directors and above) of CapTech’s SI (engineering) leadership. The people that decide your compensation and promotion are all men except HR. The SI leadership team involved in staffing you on projects is all men. There is definitely a “boys club” mentality within the engineering practice. Women never present at engineering all hands and the only leadership roles where women are represented in the practice are in community/culture and recruiting. Women developers have been bringing up the lack of diversity in leadership for over 5 years and nothing has changed. You will have to work 10x as hard to get a raise, promotion, or cool project here. You will consistently be asked to do things your male colleagues don’t have to: sending meeting invites, taking notes, planning events, etc. The company taunts its amazing DIB program but really it’s just meetings where people talk about their experiences and nothing ever gets done. Just message any girl developer from this company on linkedin and we will tell you the truth!

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, although I will admit that this is both sad to hear and tough to digest. I encourage you to reach out to myself or any member of the HR team, as we'd like to better understand this from your point of view. In response to the concerns you laid out, I agree that we lack female representation at the top leadership levels of our technical teams, but I also recognize that this is not something that can be solved overnight. As I look back over the last 5 years at CapTech, I am so excited by and proud of the progress we have made in helping strong, technically oriented women advance within the company. We currently have a solid pipeline of female talent who are rapidly emerging as top technical leaders. Looking out over the next 5-7 years, we have several women leaders who will gain the necessary experience to move into company-wide leadership roles. At the present time, I see them filling some of our more "people oriented" leadership roles - this is a positive start as these roles provide great insight into our operations and can lead to broader opportunities. Our SI practice has been a leader in soliciting volunteers and having an application process when leadership vacancies occur, and everyone is invited and welcome to apply. I agree we have work to do to continue to bolster ALL of our strong emerging technical leaders, and I am very optimistic that our current leadership team is dedicated to helping give everyone new, challenging projects that best support our clients and our company. From where I sit, I am seeing great progress to date and momentum for the future. Again, I'd love to connect. -Katy Apostolides, Managing Director - HR

Pros

- Great work life balance - Competitive salary - Interesting projects and clients

Cons

- Remote environment can sometimes diminish in-person connection. Encourage folks to come to the office through hosting more events (happy hours, lunch and learns, etc).

Thank you for leaving a review and your years with CapTech! I agree that I'd love to see more in-person connection, and it's a real focus for our company this year. While I recognize that it's sometimes hard to leave the comfy work-from-home environments that we've all created over the last few years, connecting with our clients and fellow CapTechers results in an energy that we just can't create through Teams! -Katy Apostolides, Managing Director - HR

Pros

CapTech is a fantastic place for new grads to start their careers. The company offers a robust training program, a supportive and collaborative work environment, and opportunities to work with smart and talented colleagues. Leadership stands out for its transparency and active engagement, which fosters a strong sense of trust and alignment. While the pay is competitive for entry-level roles, it may not scale as quickly as other consulting firms, leading some senior consultants to seek opportunities elsewhere after a few years. Overall, it's a great place to gain skills, grow your network, and build a solid foundation for your career.

Cons

CapTech is an excellent place to start your career. The robust training programs, hands-on experience, and supportive coaching system are standout features that equip new grads with the skills they need to thrive. However, while the compensation is competitive for entry-level roles, it may not scale as aggressively compared to other consulting firms, which is something to consider for the long term.

Thank you for your review - we are so proud of our Discovery program to help new college graduates start their professional careers in consulting. I love that you point out how open and engaged our leaders are - to everyone in the company! Our newest college hires have amazing access to top leaders in the company as well as at our clients. We do spend a lot of time understanding the consulting environment and are committed to paying people equitably and competitively within our industry. We feel our base salaries, along with our 2x/year bonuses and strong benefit offerings, make for a very competitive total rewards package. We welcome any consultant to have a 1:1 conversation regarding compensation at any point in their career to better understand CapTech's compensation philosophy, salary ranges, bonus potential, etc. If we haven't talked or it's been a while, please reach out! -Katy Apostolides, Managing Director - HR
