Pros

I've been at CapTech for a few years, and it seems like it's continuing to get better and better with age! Is it a perfect company? No, but I've never known a perfect company and it's among the best companies I've worked for. I've worked for several companies that are nationally recognized as some of the best employers in the country, and CapTech is up there! I've seen a lot of growth in size and also in maturity in the Charlotte office since I started. CapTech seems to empower people to make an impact, lead initiatives that interest them, and grow new programs from the ground-up. I like that I can ask to start a program that interests me, and without hesitation I'm encouraged and supported to do it! In the last two years or so, there's been a bigger focus on transparency... it's a buzzword you hear a lot. I think it may have been a problem in the past, but since I've been here, it seems like the leadership team, HR, and account teams are pretty open. There are a few clusters from time to time, and I still have some questions about how to get promoted, but it seems like the people around me are doing their best and rooting for me to advance. I guess I'll have a stronger opinion on promotions in the next year or so. I like the Charlotte Office culture and the CapTech culture, as a whole. It's inclusive and it's a lot of fun! CapTech just has a lot of good people who want to do cool work and have a lot of fun while they do it. There's always something social happening, and there's always a training being offered! I've never worked for a company that offered so much training support! Especially now, during the COVID-19 crisis, I'm thankful for strong and empathetic leaders. We had a tough call today with the whole company, but I hung up the phone feeling like our co-CEOs really cared for our people and our company's future -- not just the bottom line. I reached out to an Office Leader and HR for some additional information, and I received the same attention and thoughtfulness... It just feels like CapTech is a cut above not just the other consulting firms out there but other companies out there in any industry and I'm grateful to be here.

Cons

The local leadership team in Charlotte is evolving, and sometimes it's hard to figure out who is a "leader" with decision-making power. I've also found it difficult to understand the Richmond (HQ) culture or structure at times, since I work in Charlotte. There are certainly advantages to work in an office outside of Richmond, but there seem to be some significant disadvantages in terms of advancement opportunities as well. It seems a little too Richmond-centric at times, even though it's the HQ. Some people here complain a lot about the promotion process being unclear - I haven't thought that, but I may have stronger opinions on that in the future as I approach a promotion cycle.

Pros

-The people across the company are incredible to work with. This spans across each of the core practice areas, from engineers to data experts to designers to the senior leadership. There's a lot of diversity and a variety of skills and talents. I've worked quite a few places and never seen a group of such talented individuals that look out for one another and also are hyper-focused on being great partners to clients. -Principals and senior leadership are transparent, communicate well, and always looks out for talent and people first. -Company pushes innovation and is always looking for new opportunities. There are internal challenges every few months on innovation that generate unique ideas and provide a forum to continually grow our people outside of the day to day client work. -SOWs are set up and based on 40 hours a week of work. Yes, sometimes it's more than that, it is consulting after all. -For hours worked, compensation & benefits are great. -Long term the company has shown the ability to grow at a sustainable rate. It's fast enough where there's excitement and plenty of room for entrepreneurship, but not too fast to where we lose what makes CapTech special and unique.

Cons

-There is quite a bit of staff aug, but it's not the majority of the portfolio of work by any means. And a lot of the staff aug roles are with big, innovative clients where the work is exciting and impactful. This definitely isn't the case for all roles though... something the company is trying to get better at.

Pros

#1 culture. I love the people in my office and we hang out often at lunch, after work, or at outings. Spouses/significant others are often welcome to events. I know the name of dozens of people across the company and even the CEO could tell you about who I am. People out in a different office who you've never met before will pitch in to help solve a problem if you reach out to the right channels. Everyone is incredibly smart, driven, and innovative. Pay is competitive. Responsibilities are challenging, varied, and interesting. The issues of doubling the size of a consulting company provides headwinds, but also a wealth of opportunities to not only seek out, but also create initiatives and leadership positions for yourself. If you start operating/impacting at the next level, you'll soon be there.

Cons

Clients are hit or miss though I'm certain that applies for most consulting firms. The engagements themselves, especially for newer offices, were less rewarding in the past. Often amounting to a glorified staff aug position. But I see the company making great strides toward project/solution based engagements. If I had a wish it would be for a little more 9-5 time to work on internal initiatives. There's a lot of obligations with coaching, innovation challenges, trainings, internal projects, PA/SO meetings, etc. Sometimes this can't be avoided to happen during the day, often over lunch to prevent client conflicts. A wish, but no complaints as it's manageable.
