      More hits than misses project wise, but political progression

      Some great projects if you hold out for them, and reputation amongst clients overall very positive.

      Cons

      - For all the procedures and peer reviews in place for performance management, it's just lip service. Consistency of standard required to get promoted varies; too many Consultants promoted to Senior Consultants at year-end has led to message that there will be stricter quotas at mid-year promotion round. - Accounts do not use the admittedly robust and descriptive competency frameworks. - Being based in head office and not at client site, and knowing certain Partners, is guaranteed promotion. Delivering good work at client site is a more challenging ask.

Regarding your point on performance management, the quality assurance measures we have in place, such as independent reviews of promotion cases, ensure that outcomes are fair and that the peer calibration process is robust. Our commitment to career progression is evident in our twice-yearly promotion cycles and in the faster average rate of career progression versus our competitors. At the same time, it’s common sense for any business to ensure that promotions fit with the company’s operating model and grade pyramid. So whilst we issue senior managers with guidelines to support a robust promotion process and ensure that they only nominate those who are ready to operate at the next level up, we don’t operate promotion quotas.
