Pros

Friendly culture, treats employees well, good work-life balance

Cons

Large and corporate, so some decisions are made slowly; also have to really search sometimes to find someone within the organization who can provide the information you need to push a task forward

Pros

Good pay, opportunities for movement, work/life balance

Cons

Company has become overwhelmingly political and spends much of its time preaching on various non-work topics to associates. Though well intentioned it is becoming gross and distracting. Technology is slipping as we spend more and more time on this never ending quest for virtuousness. As a person of color it can make me feel fetishized and tokenized.

W/L balance dropped post-COVID

Pros

I worked at Capital One for a number of years and loved my experience while I was there. If you worked hard and was motivated you could get promoted (or at least get a 5+% salary adjustment in non-promotion years). Bonuses were generous compared to other companies in the region. I went to the gym every day, took advantage of personal training and free career coaching, would often frequent the #freefood slack channel rooms to score free lunches, etc. It was a great experience aside from the standard petty office politics.

Cons

The culture has gone down the drain post-COVID, especially with regards to work life balance, based on what my partner (still at Capital One) says. I asked my partner to take one day off of work to come with me to close on a house and he refused because taking a non-Friday off would be a red flag in his group. I then asked if he could take the Friday off to help move and he said that might also be a red flag. He also made it clear that based on the way his team functions, he's not planning to take more than 1 week of paternity leave next year because he doesn't want his team to use that against him in perf. I'm going to be honest, I don't even recognize this company anymore.
