Pros

Great pay and experience. Work for a industry revolutionist. The purchasing department has some of the coolest, smartest and results driven people in CarMax. Purchase millions of dollars in inventory with personal accountability. Truly a merit based company. Given a chance everyday to shape the direction of the company. Spots are scare. Very rarely are there spots open in this department as most positions are filled by referrasl/recruitment from other Buyers.

Cons

The purchasing department recruits the top elite in terms of performance, ethic and intelligence. Therefore the department company wide tends to be full of people that lean toward the Type A personality type. Competitive, confident, over achieving, workaholic. Dont work here unless your looking for a Career. Not a job.

Pros

Traing was very extensive and thourough. The management staff was extremely knowledgeable and approacheable. There is a definete sense of TEAM in the company and commitment to complete and total customer satisfaction. Carmax works on principles that are never changing, thus it makes sense and gives you a true feeling of satisfaction working there and living up to the Carmax principles.

Cons

If you are new to car sales it takes a while to get a good "pipeline" of clients going and return referrals. Your hourly compensation is low-to-decent if your not meeting your quota on sales, depending on how much you "cost of living" expenses are.

Pros

Great part-time gig, enjoy people I work with and the customers.

Cons

Pay - Unclear on how anyone in management can really explain how pay does not track with CPI changes and how the base can remain unchanged for almost 18 year?. A "contest" is NOT the answer to this topic. Better pay expense could in large part be recovered in reduced recruitment expenses and increase company productivity all at the same time!
