Pros

Carmax is a good place to work for part time sales people who either live at home or have a real job.

Cons

It is very depressing that Carmax raises that salary of its Ceo each year but at the same time refuses to to increase the sales comission, which stayed the same since 1993, Carmax changed the bonuses for sales people so they pay out less than they did in 1993. In reality every sales consultang got a hidden paycut. it is very annoying that the quality of the cars decreased and the main focus of the company is to teach sales consultants to sell through the flaws. Manager spent more time on training and development than on doing their job which should be helping sales people to help sell cars. the business office os more concerned about hteir coorporate numbers than to help sales people with solving problems. Carmax turned into a company over the last few years that focuses more on numbers and statistics than on business of selling cars.

Pros

Working from Home and sick time

Cons

You will be monitored on every call. They listen, watch your screen while you work. While you are on the line, manager will chime in and tell you what to say and when. You have to meet all metrics for sales. No customers are YOUR customers. Fellow employees steal your customer and you lose your points. Store employees do not like the CEC and you are in competition with all peers. Customers are confused as they think they are calling the store and are not happy when they realize you are remote and won't be meeting them at the store to complete the sale. Working on a Sunday... don't do it. It is by far the worst day for sales and progressing the customer which makes it hard to recover from each week to meet your metrics. Pay is extremely low for all of the responsibilities that are expected from you. A lot of your calls are for the service department, complaints for customer relations and not a sales call and that call is considered a "moment" and counted against your sales metrics.

Pros

I gave over a decade to CarMax. It was a fantastic place when I first started. -Development/Advancement -Pay -Morale/Recognition -Family Culture -Customer Service -Structure

Cons

Things changed over the years... -Morale/Recognition less frequent. -Pay not comparable to competitors. -Structuring, many positions eliminated and roles integrated into other positions. -Family culture shifted to more of a control culture by upper management. Those who spent years developing towards a certain role were dead ended. -Associate development became more mandatory than encouraged.
