Pros

Benefits and compensation are great. started out much higher than I expected to straight out of college.

Cons

Very difficult to take any time off. Some management was not willing to work with schedules and we did not get paid holidays.

Pros

The global scope of Cargill offers an incredible amount of opportunities for personal and professional growth and developement. For as large as the company is, it is founded on integrity and always doing the right thing. The core of the business is admirable.

Cons

For as large as the company is, communication and cooperation between business units is poor at best. The benefits of being part of a global company is lost with the inability to learn from the successes and mistakes of others and other business units. This coupled with top heavy management makes for inefficiencies and the inability to make quick, effective decisions. This leads to chasing where an industry is headed rather than leading it.

Inconsistency within

Pros

They can be flexible in terms of time off and hours, although this varies from dept to dept. Adequate benefits.

Cons

Functional departments have their own policies and their own HR, so benefits and policies are not always consistent from one to another. HR is there for the benefit of the department, and requests for help from them by an employee were ignored and not documented. A true "good old boys" network, very political, with long term managers who know the right people often unaccountable for actions that probably could have gotten them let go at other places. The culture is such that it's who you are "pals" with rather than what you can do. Salaries less than the competition, insurance with a low life-time maximum.
